Petition Brandon Riley, SF Courts CEO, to address staffing & training concerns

The San Francisco courts have been in the news for all the wrong reasons lately. Trials have been delayed. Criminal cases have been thrown out due to backlogs and delays. The public is facing long waits, undermining our constitutional right to speedy trials.

Union members at the San Francisco Superior Courts have been attempting to negotiate a new contract with management since early September. We’ve been trying to work with management to improve staffing and training in an effort to ease the backlog of cases.

Unfortunately, management has been unwilling to negotiate in good faith, so court workers are on an unfair labor practice (ULP) strike.

We will continue to fight for efficiencies through improved staffing levels and training.

Petition to Brandon Riley, SF Superior Court CEO

Please join us by signing our petition asking CEO Brandon Riley to negotiate in good faith with SF courts workers now!

CEO Riley:

Our courts have an obligation to run as efficiently as possible to make sure that EVERYONE's sixth amendment right to a speedy trial is protected. Currently, the SF Superior Court is failing in that mission due to a backlog caused by inadequate staffing and exacerbated by inadequate training.

Defendants, victims, and victims' families deserve better.

Further, everyday San Franciscans rely on the services of the civil court to meet their needs. They too deserve for their cases to be resolved as quickly and efficiently as possible.

We urge you to negotiate in good faith with court workers to address these issues to make sure the San Francisco Superior Court operates efficiently and carries out its mission of serving justice.
