Superintendent Carter: Put Students First!

Sonoma County Office of Education Superintendent Carter says she supports students. Her budget tells a different story.

Superintendent Carter has laid off 9 teachers and 11 teaching assistants. More layoffs are expected at the end of this academic year.

Meanwhile, SCOE financial reports reveal that the agency’s annual revenues and overall yearly budget have grown by more than $10 million over the past four years. SCOE has tens of millions sitting in reserves, almost 19% of its spending for the entire year.

SCOE’s priorities are misplaced

Over the last two years, Carter has funneled resources into at least 12 new management positions — such as a $219,180/year “Director of Administrative Services” and a $168,836/year “Director of Artificial Intelligence in Education.”

Students lose while bureaucracy grows. That’s not putting children first.
