Protect the health and safety of app workers

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, app workers have been delivering food to families sheltering in place and transporting frontline essential workers to their jobs. Despite being deemed essential themselves, Uber and Lyft’s predatory business model has left drivers excluded from the safety net protections we need.

As COVID cases surge, gig workers are committed to fighting for the health and safety provisions that we so desperately need. Please show your support by joining us in calling on elected officials for their help.

Gig companies should provide workers with PPE & paid time for disinfecting

San Francisco Supervisor Matt Haney is introducing legislation that would require app companies to provide delivery drivers with PPE and paid time for cleaning and disinfecting our vehicles. This legislation is badly needed to protect the health and safety of essential food delivery app workers as well as every member of our community.

Please take a moment and sign our petition in support of this ordinance.

Dear San Francisco Board of Supervisors,

Nearly a year into the COVID-19 pandemic, gig companies are still refusing to provide adequate PPE to app workers in San Francisco and across Northern California. As essential workers, we are risking the health and safety of our loved ones to serve San Franciscans every day. It is shameful how we are being treated by these wealthy and powerful Silicon Valley corporations.

Workers like us have been on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic since day one. We're the people delivering food to families who are sheltering in place. We are helping frontline healthcare professionals and other essential workers get to and from work. Despite this, many of us are going without adequate PPE. We put in a tremendous amount of additional unpaid labor to clean and disinfect our vehicles to keep ourselves and our customers safe. Enough is enough.

Every day, app workers are forced to make tough decisions regarding our health and livelihoods. We are respectfully asking members of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors to support us and help keep us safe by passing Supervisor Haney's legislation to require app corporations to provide us adequate PPE and pay us for disinfecting our cars so we can continue the important work of serving this city's residents.
