San Francisco likes to think of itself as a progressive, pro-worker city but for too long, it has abused temp workers by depriving them of stability,  benefits, certain workplace rights, and more. In effect, this shamefully creates two tiers of City and County workers where some workers enjoy more guarantees than others despite doing the same work. In some cases, workers can spend years—even more than a decade—languishing as a "temporary" worker while awaiting a permanent position with all of the rights and protections they deserve. Enough is enough!

In some cases, workers can spend years—even more than a decade—languishing as a "temporary" worker while awaiting a permanent position with all of the rights and protections they deserve. Enough is enough!

Stop the abuse of temporary workers in San Francisco!

Take action now by signing our petition and telling the City and County of San Francisco to stop treating temporary staff as second-tier workers and provide them a path to permanent status.

We are CCSF workers and SEIU 1021 members. Some of us are TEX workers and some of us are signing this petition in solidarity with our fellow TEX members.

We are signing this petition in order to express our frustration with the way the City and County has been abusing us as TEX workers. The current system...

  • Keeps us in a situation where we would be extremely lucky to secure a permanent position within the City.
  • Keeps us as “at-will” employees with almost no rights. 
  • Forces some temp workers to train new permanent workers as they come in to City employment. 
  • Has forced many of us into temporary status for more than a decade without a pathway to permanency, even while our workplaces remain severely understaffed.

It’s obvious to all of us – the current system needs to change.

We are signing this petition to demand action from our employer. Temp workers need a real opportunity to secure permanent positions, so that we can provide for our families with the dignity we deserve. The City and County of San Francisco must stop abusing temporary workers and start treating us with the dignity and respect we deserve.
