It's a familiar story for drivers. Whether you're driving for Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, or another app-based driving company, it can be incredibly hard to find places to use the restroom and many restaurants or gas stations don't have facilities available.

This is just as true for the drivers who help transport travelers to and from the Bay Area's airports. Drivers are in and out of the staging lots, cell phone lots, and more every day. We deserve better conditions!

Fix the SFO Lots!

The SFO Airport staging lots are one of the few places where rideshare drivers like us, who often work long hours, get to be off the road, eat a meal, or use the restroom. But sadly, most lots are in bad condition, depriving hard-working us of even the most basic amenities.

We are human beings, and we deserve basic dignity and respect. That's why we are demanding that the SFO Airport Authority fix the restrooms in the lots!

Dear To the SFO Airport Authority,

We are the drivers who work at SFO and in TNC Staging Lots every day. We contribute to the vitality of this airport by helping move the tens of millions of travelers who pass through SFO every year to and from their homes and their loved ones.

Airport staging lots are one of the few places where drivers, who often work long hours, get to be off the road, eat a meal, or use the restroom. But sadly, the staging lots at SFO have fallen into dire condition, depriving hard-working drivers of even the most basic amenities.

We are human beings, and we deserve basic dignity and respect. That is why are calling for:

● Clean, permanent, and accessible facilities in the TNC Staging lots. We deserve access to clean restrooms. Drivers should have potable water both for drinking and the washing of hands. Facilities should be ADA compliant, and SFO employees should be trained in compliance.

● Enforcement of rules, appropriate training for SFO staff, and a process for grievances. The no-smoking rule should be enforced to prevent people from getting sick. SFO should train employees in de-escalation of conflicts within the lots and provide drivers with an avenue to address issues they encounter with SFO employees.

● Adequate space for drivers to have breaks and meals. We ask that healthy food options be available for purchase in every lot. Drivers also need space for religious worship and reflection.

● Improved management of the lots. There aren’t enough parking spaces in the lots. We need to be a designated area or lot opened after midnight for drivers to wait at, and a transparent system for lot entry and parking. Drivers should be let into a lot if there is an open space.

Drivers are an integral part of the transportation network that makes SFO a world-class airport. As stakeholders in the success of this airport and the safe travels of its passengers, we ask the SFO Airport Authority to partner with us to ensure drivers are treated with respect.
