Tell DoorDash CEO Tony Xu: Share the wealth with workers!

DoorDash CEO Tony Xu made over $400 million dollars in 2021 alone beating out all other Bay Area CEOs — and has not passed on the wealth! DoorDash workers sometimes make less than $10 per delivery with no health insurance, job security, compensation for operating costs, or enough protective equipment against COVID-19.

Enough is enough. Join the chorus of people demanding better for DoorDash workers.

Dear DoorDash,

We — DoorDash delivery drivers and gig workers from all platforms — have been deemed essential workers yet are working for DoorDash under unfair and exploitative working conditions throughout the pandemic.

We the undersigned and delivery workers with We Drive Progress are taking action to demand:

  • Follow the recent ruling that Prop 22 is unconstitutional - correctly classify drivers as employees with real minimum wages and employee benefits
  • Transparency for tips and earnings
  • No more unfair deactivations – delivery drivers deserve due process
  • Safety, including free PPE and adequate pay for car/equipment sanitizing

We “Dashers” have lacked transparency on tips, earnings, and whether we make 120% of the minimum wage (as required by Prop 22). We’ve also been deactivated or seen acceptance scores lowered unfairly — meaning fewer deliveries for less money. And, despite working during a global pandemic, we haven’t received enough protective equipment.

We have also been expected to make several deliveries at once for low pay. For example, one dasher was expected to make two deliveries — requiring four separate stops at restaurants and individuals’ homes — for as little as $8 with no compensation for gas money, parking, vehicle upkeep, or PPE.

During a worldwide pandemic and while performing a job that requires entering restaurants, apartment buildings, homes, and interacting with many people, DoorDash workers have received little to no safety support. Some DoorDash workers have reported being reimbursed as little as 80 cents per day for cleaning/sanitizing equipment and PPE that they use to keep themselves and customers safe. We workers are hustling to make ends meet while struggling to keep ourselves safe. It’s part of a pattern of exploitation of gig workers across apps and industries.

Currently, DoorDash CEO Tony Xu is the 7th highest-paid CEO in the US. Xu made over $400 million dollars in 2021 alone beating out all other Bay Area CEOs — and has not passed on the wealth!

DoorDash workers deserve better.
