Support Dixon Unified Schools & Staff

Dixon Unified School District classified staff are responsible for keeping our schools clean, safe, and efficient. They are the ones who make sure our students with disabilities get the support and services they need to thrive. They make sure every kid gets a good breakfast and lunch so they can focus in class.

Dixon Unified School District classified staff are responsible for keeping our schools clean, safe, and efficient. They are the ones who make sure our students with disabilities get the support and services they need to thrive. They make sure every kid gets a good breakfast and lunch so they can focus in class.

But currently, a severe staffing shortage means that some students with disabilities and other special needs are not getting the individualized attention and support they need -- and are legally entitled to. It means that custodians and maintenance workers aren't able to keep up with the work of keeping school facilities clean and safe.

The staffing crisis is caused by extremely low wages that can't compete with neighboring school districts and tough working conditions made even tougher by the short staffing. Yet district administration refuses to negotiate in good faith with its classified staff on ways to address the staffing crisis to give Dixon students and families the schools they deserve.

Tell Dixon USD School Board to Staff Up & Avoid a Strike

May 3, Dixon USD classified staff voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike. The district's unfair labor practices and refusal to bargain in good faith to address the staffing crisis has left Dixon schools in poor condition and is depriving students with disabilities of the support and services they need and deserve.

The district is not addressing the low wages of classified staff, many of whom work two or more jobs to make ends meet. The conditions of schools are deteriorating and students are not getting the assistance they need. We are losing workers to neighboring districts that pay better or the private sector. The district has $2.7 million in reserve above what is required by the state. The district corrected the wage issues for management, but not for classified staff.

Please email the school board and tell them to avoid a strike by settling a fair contract with their lowest-paid workers now.
