Before the late Alameda County District 2 Supervisor Richard Valle passed away in February of 2023, he expressed that he wished for Ariana Casanova to succeed him until the next election. 

Ariana Casanova is deeply rooted in Alameda County. For two decades, she has been at the forefront of organizing right here in the East Bay as an organizing and political lead for SEIU 1021, one of California’s largest labor organizations.

Ariana Casanova is deeply rooted in Alameda County. For two decades, she has been at the forefront of organizing right here in the East Bay as an organizing and political lead for SEIU 1021, one of California’s largest labor organizations.

Ariana has a track record of working for the people. She fought to ensure the passage of local legislation to protect healthcare workers during the COVID 19 pandemic; lobbied for state and federal dollars for local needs; ensured that public safety and emergency response, healthcare, and childcare were included in municipal budgets; and led successful campaigns to increase affordable housing, fund local schools and parks, and invest in clean power, among other efforts.

Ariana has spent years supporting foster and at-risk youth, life-saving work to the next generation, her mentoring relationships hold strong to this very day. 

While on staff with the Mexican American Educational and Legal Defense Fund (MALDEF) she helped strengthen education standards at the local and state level, and trained community leaders to defend the rights of immigrants.

Ariana’s appointment puts a true community champion endorsed by the late Supervisor Richard Valle into the seat, so the work of his office can continue seamlessly until the voters choose their own representative.
